ROCO the raccoon

ROCO's story

ROCO always wanted to be a hero. As a tribute to his great idols Zorro and Robin Hood his superhero outfit is composed of a practical mask and a stylish hood! ROCO is a knight in shining armor and of course he's always ready to help with the dishes. His greatest coup was when ROCO robbed the CandyBank in lalylaland to distribute the captured sweets among his friends. Unfortunately, most of the delicious loot "disappeared" quite unaccountably on ROCO's way back home.

the material you'll need
  • 2,0 or 2,5 mm (US 0 or US 1 ½) crochet hook
  • 1,5 mm (US 7) steel (thread) crochet hook
  • tapestry needle
  • red embroidery floss (perl cotton / one strand, 2-ply, hi-sheen, non-divisible twisted thread)
  • 2 black 6 mm (0,2 inch) glass eyes (or black yarn to embroider)
  • soft stuffing (like cotton wool, Polyfill, etc.)

gray yarn / ≈ 30g
Regia Uni - color: 0044 - 4ply

white or creme colored yarn / ≈ 35g
SMC Catania - color: 130 - 4ply

beige yarn / ≈ 10g
Regia Uni - color: 02070 - 4ply

black yarn / ≈ 30g
Regia Uni - color: 0522 - 4ply

Using the suggested materials worked on a 2,0 mm (US 0) hook, ROCO turns out at approx. 27 cm (10,5 inches) height. But you can use every yarn you prefer - the doll's getting taller when using a heavier yarn weight on a larger needle. In that case you have to correct the size of the eyes.

techniques you should know

Every lalylala crochet pattern is written for beginners too and I tried to be very detailed in my descriptions and included several step-by-step photos to show what to do.

For ROCO you have to know how to:

  • single crochet stitch
  • half double & double crochet stitch
  • triple crochet stitch
  • start a magic loop
  • increase & decrease
  • slip stitch
