You know that? It’s weekend (hurray!), you spend your Sunday sittin’ in the sun enjoying a crochet project you’ve almost finished … when suddenly your crochet hook capitulates and breaks.
Your formely sunny mood turns into gloomy darkness! Even super glue doesn’t help to reanimate the recently deceased and no way to get a new hook since it’s Sunday and all shops are closed!
That’s exactly what happened to me some days ago and I was like ✖_✖ (!) I had to lay my beloved crochet hook to rest and look for for an alternative in the deep depth of my handycraft cabinet. It took a while but …. taaaaataaaaa: I found another hook … but of course it was one of those aweful steel hooks without a propper handle for a nice grip. (Sometimes I think they are just made to make my fingers start to cramp just even when I think of one of those hooks.) But I really really needed another crochet hook – right here, right now!
I dug a little deeper and found a pack of soft polymer clay. With a loud “that’s-it-plinggg” kind of a sound an idea fell into place and that’s what I did to save my day:
This is just so clever ! Congratulations for such a good idea :D
That’s such a great idea! Thanx for sharing. I’m gonna try it with all my “crampy” hooks
I made these this weekend for 3 of my “crampy” hooks. Love them! Such a clever idea, I can’t believe I hadn’t thought of it before. :)
Reading your post made me laugh so bad!! Lol i feel the exact same way when my most used crochet hook breaks!!!, and i have such a problem finding somewhere to buy crochet hooks with a handle!!! I have to say, my 2,5mm hook has been super glued too many times to count lol it broke yesterday again :( right in the middle of making Bina :/ my problem is, i dont have another 2,5 nor FIMO at home but that can be easily resolved!!! Thank you for your brilliant idea :) now i can make fimo handles for all my crapy crampy needles :) :D
Oh wow! That’s SO clever! Did it actually work nicely or did you have to buy an ‘ergonomic’ one after all? If it works well enough, I’m also going to turn my regular steel hooks into grippy ones! :D Please tell me!
it work’s really great … just go ahead and try it ;)
That is a really clever idea; as they say “necessity is the Mother of invention..” By the way, as the Fimo goes over the part which tells you the size of the hook, people need to remember to write that on, especially if you are new to crochet like me, and can’t quite tell the different sizes yet :)
to remember the size you could carve the number into the FIMO before you harden it up ;)
